LEARN TO EDIT YOUR OWN MOVIES

Since the Colorado Judge's ruling that businesses that edit movies professionally for their clients are stepping out of bounds (which I personally disagree with, but all of you know my feelings), it is becoming more important that families learn what alternatives there are out there to sanitize their collection of films. You have several choices.

You can choose to avoid these films altogether or put up with the content. You can invest in a clear play DVD player that blocks out foul language and skips over inappropriate scenes. You can pay a private party to edit movies for you, or you can learn to do it yourself. Editing is a chore, does take a lot of time, and can be very expensive if you really want to impress. But if, like me, you just want to snip a scene out of Oscar & Lucinda, or remove sex from The Tudors, it's worth it.

Please read the following information, and then use our how-to guidelines.

Recommended software:

+ a Sony DRX-820U external DVD burner if your computer does not have an internal DVD-burner

+ DVD Shrink for ripping video files (freeware -- you can download it online)

+ Auto GK for transforming VOB to Avi (freeware -- you can download it online)

+ DivX Author (editing software)

+ NeroVison Express for burning (comes with your Sony)

Extra information:

 + Ripping with DVD Shrink

+ Transforming VOB files into AVI

 + Editing your film

+ Burning onto a disk with Nero

For the most part, editing is time consuming but worth it for the finished product. You can control what comes out of or stays in your movie, so that it suits your personal preferences and needs. If you cannot edit yourself, there are other options out there.

Here is my edited movie list. Inquiries are welcome.
